Lekkerland opens a cashless store at Frankfurt Airport
Lekkerland has opened Germany’s first cashless airport shop in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport.
The automated Rewe To Go store is unmanned: cameras record what customers take from the shelves and payment is made automatically when they leave, Lebensmittelpraxis reports.
The 70-square-metre store offers around 570 products, including fresh sandwiches, salads, drinks, sweets and travel essentials. Payment is cashless, available via Visa and Mastercard credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
According to Mehmet Tözge, Vice President of Lekkerland Smart Stores, the airport is an ideal location to test the concept of non-stop accessibility and fast shopping.
Lekkerland already operates more than 20 similar stores in various locations in Germany, including hospitals, train stations and office complexes. The company, which is part of the Rewe Group, sells in 41,800 locations and achieved sales of €9.1 billion in 2023.
