Christmas gastronomic gifts safely with Nébih’s advice
With the Christmas holidays approaching, the Nébih Educational Program has collected the basic information on making homemade gastronomic gifts. As the holiday season approaches, more and more people are choosing personalized, homemade gastronomic gifts: jams, cream liqueurs, cakes or even flavored oils. However, in the case of homemade delicacies, it is not enough to pay attention to the flavors and packaging, food safety comes first!
One of the basic conditions for the safety of homemade gastronomic gifts is the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. Certain higher-risk ingredients (such as dairy products, eggs, fresh vegetables and fruits) require greater attention, and we should try to avoid using them if we want a gift that will last longer. In addition to a clean environment and tools, the proper hygienic condition of the packaging used is also important. Thoroughly clean the jars and glass containers used, and if possible, disinfect them by boiling them. In the case of homemade gastronomic gifts, the labeling should not only be aesthetic, but also informative: write the date of preparation, the best before date, allergens and information on storage on the gift.
