On June 5 the Guild of Hungarian Restaurateurs (MVI) and the Pest County Directorate of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NVA) organised a conference, where those working in the hospitality sector had the chance to get answers from the tax authorities to questions about practical problems. The event’s host was Dr Mihály Minya, the director of NAV’s Pest County Directorate, who told: the main goal of NAV isn’t to punish, but to do some kind of mentoring. MVI president László Kovács made it clear that the hospitality trade needs suggestions and recommendations on how to comply with regulations better and more easily.
MVI members’ questions (submitted in advance) were answered in the form of three presentations. Dr József Lambertus, the head of NAV’s information department talked about matters related to the VAT on restaurant services and the tourism development contribution. For instance he explained that the catering segment doesn’t fall under the scope of the lower VAT, and workplace cafeterias and public sector catering also belong to the highest rate category.
Lajos Bakos, the head of NAV’s excise department No.3 was speaking about trading with excise goods. He introduced the system of categorising drinks with an alcohol content, spoke about the categories in trading with excise goods and listed the various rules and regulations (storage, stock management, sales). He underlined the fact that excise-related affairs can only be managed online. Dr Beáta Barta, deputy head of NAV’s operative control department gave a presentation about employment issues, online cash register use and turnover count. For instance she stressed that black employment not only entails a fine up to HUF 1 million/employee but also being categorised as a risky taxpayer. //
