Annual inflation in Romania accelerated to 7.84 percent in July
In July, annual inflation in Romania accelerated to 7.84 percent, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Tuesday.
In June, the consumer price index in Romania increased by only 5.66 percent.
Food prices increased by 7.67 percent compared to June 2024, while the prices of non-food products increased by an average of 8.18 percent, while those of services increased by 7.33 percent.
The prices of electricity (62.97 percent), fresh fruit (39.74 percent), beauty services (14.06 percent), coffee (13.05 percent) and postal services (12.15 percent) increased the most. The prices of air transport (9.75 percent), telephone services (3.75 percent), sugar (3.08 percent) and potatoes (2.38 percent) decreased the most.
The consumer price index in Romania increased by 2.68 percent compared to the previous month.
Between August 2024 and July 2025, consumer prices increased by an average of 5.3 percent compared to the previous 12 months.
Analysts expect inflation to accelerate further in the coming months, as the government in Bucharest increased the general VAT rate from 19 percent to 21 percent from August 1.
