Retail sales in the Czech Republic increased by 2.5 percent in July
In July, the annual growth of retail trade in the Czech Republic slowed to 2.5 percent from 4.8 percent in June, the Czech Statistical Office (CSÚ) announced on Friday in Prague.
Retail trade decreased by 0.3 percent in one month.
Compared to July last year, revenues from fuel sales and industrial goods increased, while food sales fell. “Revenues from the sale of computers and communication devices, as well as from the sale of clothing and footwear, were also lower,” Jana Gotvaldová, the statistical office’s specialist director, pointed out at the press conference.
Fuel sales increased by 8.3 percent, industrial goods by 3.5 percent, while food sales decreased by 0.9 percent, the CSÚ reported. The turnover of drugstore goods increased by 7.9 percent, while the turnover of pharmacies and health care stores increased by 5.9 percent year-on-year. The turnover of computers and communication equipment decreased by 5.3 percent, while the turnover of clothing and footwear decreased by 1.5 percent.
According to market analysts surveyed by the Czech news agency, the lower growth of retail turnover in July is mainly due to the summer holiday season, and growth is expected to accelerate again in the following months.
