The amount available for ewe support will increase next year
The government is committed to supporting the sheep sector, which is why it has decided to increase one of the most important elements of the support available to sheep farmers. Accordingly, from 2025, the financial framework of the current production-linked ewe support title will increase by 4 percent.
The measure will contribute to exploiting the economic potential of the sector, as a shortage of lamb is expected on the European market in the future. Several support titles have been available for the sheep sector from both the EU and national budgets for years, of which support for the introduction of breeding stock or small ruminant animal welfare support has been launched in recent years. Almost a decade ago, in 2015, it was possible to provide production-linked support to sheep farms based on the number of ewes, which can thus receive direct support from EU sources. In order to strengthen sheep farmers, the government decided to use the limited EU room for manoeuvre available to increase the amount of the budget for production-linked ewe support.
Thanks to the additional resources, the financial framework of the current production-linked ewe support title will increase by 4 percent from 2025
This represents an annual surplus of more than 880 thousand euros, or more than 350 million forints in forints. At the same time, the specific support value per ewe will also increase, by almost 4 percent based on this year’s application data. The increase in the budget had to be justified to the European Commission and supported by calculations, and at the same time, the necessary amendment to the CAP Strategic Plan was officially accepted by the European Commission. Another positive change that will come into effect from 2025 is that the subsidy available for scrapie genotyping will increase from HUF 6,500 to HUF 7,500.
