Coming from well-being – this is how solutions are created
In April, we entered Stress Awareness Month, which can be an excellent opportunity to turn our attention to our mental well-being. The effects of stress and the possibilities of its treatment are also the central topic of this year’s Solutions for Tomorrow challenge training organized by Samsung and EdisonKids.
Do we recognize the signs of stress in ourselves? Can we assess when we need a break? Bettina Juhász, psycho-educator, co-founder of the Deep Air Project, jury member and contributing expert of Solutions for Tomorrow, uses an illustrative approach to compare life to a smartphone, in which the battery is mental and physical health – these provide the energy with which we can keep our everyday lives moving. In the analogy, the applications running on the device can correspond to, for example, family, friends, home, work and school tasks.
“There are applications that can unnecessarily drain our battery, while others can optimize its functioning. Negative thoughts, lack of self-confidence, and stress can also take their toll on us, so it’s worth paying conscious attention to how we can recharge,” says Bettina Juhász. According to the expert, even if we can’t avoid potential stressful situations, we can still arm ourselves with our own tools, whether it’s a walk in nature or a good movie that will help you switch off. “When it comes to mental health, it’s also very important to address how we can make help available to as many people as possible with modern tools. Among other things, this is where we connect with the vision of Solutions for Tomorrow.”
In a sense, we can also think of stress management as a social issue, since the mental and physical well-being of all of us is an important cornerstone for achieving a better future. The organizers of Solutions for Tomorrow, which has entered its fifth season this year, also believe in this. The 7-12. This time, students and their teachers from grade 11 competed in the Community and Sustainable Future categories, as well as in the Health theme. The Solutions for Tomorrow contestants are working on a number of creative, forward-looking ideas that aim to maintain physical, mental and spiritual well-being and can promote the wider spread of stress management techniques.
