M&S hits 20 goals in environmental Plan A
Marks & Spencer has reported that it has already hit 20 out of the 100 environmental goals set out in its green initiative called Plan A.
The company pointed to particular
progress in energy saving, waste reduction and a general increase in
efficiency. Highlights include the launch of a service selling gas
and electricity, which incentivises customers to reduce their energy
consumption by offering M&S vouchers to anyone reducing annual
consumption by 10%. The company’s decision to charge for plastic
bags has reduced their usage and raised GBP500,000, which has been
donated to environmental charity Groundwork. Under the initiative,
70% of packaging is now suitable for recycling, whilst in the apparel
division a new scheme has seen 70 million coat hangers recycled.
