Big increase in yoghurt sales
According to the Retail Index of Nielsen, retail sales of yoghurt were up by 9 per cent in terms of quantity in the June 2007 – July 2008 period, compared to the preceding year. The market expanded by over 20 per cent in terms of value, exceeding HUF 6 billion. Fruit yoghurts produced growth of 2 per cent in terms of quantity. Sales of butter, cheese and sandwich cream all expanded by 3 per cent. Sales of cheese, milk dessert, cottage cheese and cottage cheese type sandwich cream dropped. The popularity of yoghurt is mainly due to the increased focus on wellness and health, also reflected in the success of organic yoghurts. Sales of bio yoghurts have exceeded those of non-organic products. The average price of natural yoghurts has risen by over 10 per cent in the past year.
