This year’s corn crop is good, but it is time to be prepared for the challenges
Almost fifty percent more corn has grown in Hungary this year, than in 2012. An average of 5.8 tonnes per hectare yield was harvested by the farmers, but the volatile crop of the past years raises serious questions – was said at the Syngenta Quilt Xcel professional event, which was held in Siófok with the participation of Hungarian and Serbian farmers.
After the extremely bad 2012 year, that gave an average four tonnes per hectare, in 2013 nearly fifty percent more corn was harvested from the more than 1.2 million hectares of production area – Tóth Csantavéri Szilvia product manager for Syngenta said in her presentation. The extreme weather of the past years, made maize production unpredictable in Hungary. Maize production is considered to be a main sector of agriculture in Hungary – the expert added.
