Bulk shopping has become significantly cheaper: more than 900 products are available at much lower prices than a year ago
Here is Tesco’s Easter deflation gift basket. More than 900 non-margin-stop products are available in stores and online at a discount of at least 5 percent* compared to the average price for the January-March 2025 period. In addition to its regular discounts and Clubcard-priced offerings, the department store chain is also supporting families in reducing their expenses, who can save up to tens of thousands of forints per month on their large purchases compared to the same period last year. The reduced-price selection covering 15 product categories includes classic Easter menu ingredients as well as foods frequently consumed in households or products that support conscious nutrition and are free of additives.
Despite the inflationary pressure of the past year, the prices of more than 900 products in the supermarket chain’s range have decreased. Thanks to the favorable-priced selection, which mainly includes food products, shopping can be done at a price that is at least 5 percent lower than the average price for the period January-March 2025. The most significant, with a 20-58% decrease, include more than 200 items, including smoked-cooked tied shoulder ham, three types of kalács, Dijon mustard and Hellmann’s mayonnaise, baking powder and gelatin, as well as quality drinks such as Beefeater and Tanqueray gins (the latter also in non-alcoholic versions), Johnnie Walker Black Label or Tesco Finest Pinot Grigio, all of which can be perfect ingredients for Easter meals or entertaining guests. At the same time, products that are often found in the kitchens and dining tables of Hungarian families can also be found among the most affordable items in the deflation basket. For example, among dairy products, sour cream, sliced Gouda and Edam cheese, Hungarian natural buttercream or the more special buffala mozzarella and parenyica; tinned codfish and pickles; vegetables and fruits such as lecsó peppers, celery tubers, parsley roots, carrots, purple cabbage and pears; winter salami and dried sausages, which are popular stars of their breakfasts and snacks, Nesquik cocoa drink, Győri Édes oat snacks or the delicacies such as mangalica smoked delicatessen bacon and smoked sliced salmon fillet; and instant rice, tarhonya and (thread) medlar among the ingredients of cooked dishes.
“In almost every major product category, we have products that are not subject to the margin freeze, the prices of which have been reduced by at least 5 percent, including dairy products, meat, delicatessen, vegetables and fruits, cooking and baking ingredients, rice and pasta, frozen and (semi-)prepared foods, as well as snacks, sweets, alcoholic and soft drinks, coffees and teas. But those who prefer conscious eating and pet owners should also visit us, because they can now buy many free, vegetarian and vegan products and pet food for significantly less than a year ago. With our favorable pricing, we not only want to make festive preparations financially easier, but we also provide our customers with support that will allow them to get significantly more out of their household budget and from bulk shopping”– said Nóra Hevesi, Head of Communications at TESCO-GLOBAL Department Stores Ltd.
