Apples have become significantly more expensive in Hungary

According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, the foreign trade balance of table apples intended for fresh consumption in Hungary was negative in the first ten months of 2025: imports increased by 26 percent to 26.8 thousand tons, exports decreased by 44 percent to 8.1 thousand tons. Imports of industrial apples decreased by 33 percent to 2.8 thousand tons, and exports by 79 percent to 1.8 thousand tons.

According to data from AKI PÁIR, the producer price of apples on the Budapest Wholesale Market increased by 33 percent to 478 forints/kilogram in the first 50 weeks of 2025 compared to the previous year. Among the apple varieties harvested in 2025, the producer price of Jonathan increased by 61 percent (515 HUF/kilogram), Idaredé by 48 percent (511 HUF/kilogram), and Goldené by 44 percent (526 HUF/kilogram) between the 36th and 50th weeks of 2025 compared to the average price of the same period of the previous year. According to AKI PÁIR data, the average purchase price of industrial apples in the 2025 harvest season (August–November) was 80.5 thousand HUF/ton, which is 5 percent lower than the average price of the same period of the previous year.
