The price of eggs has decreased significantly in Hungary
In the first fifteen weeks of the year, the price of eggs fell well below last year’s level, according to the latest data.
According to the report of the Agrárközgazdasági Intézet (AKI), the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage farming was HUF 48.49 per piece, which is 18.6 percent lower than the average for the same period in 2023. The price of M and L size class eggs also decreased significantly, by 17.1 and 15.8 percent.
The decrease in the price of eggs is accompanied by an increase in the EU’s egg and egg product imports, which increased by 23 percent to 47,000 tons compared to the same period of the previous year. At the same time, the price of fresh chicken showed a mixed picture: while the price of chicken breast decreased by 3.3 percent, the price of bone-in chicken breast and chicken thigh increased.
The price reduction can have a positive effect on the domestic market, especially in addition to the reduction of inflation, which is confirmed by the latest report of the KSH.
