Economic sentiment in the euro area and the EU improved in May
Although less than expected, the economic sentiment index in both the euro area and the EU improved in May from an 11-year low of the previous month – according to a European Commission report publshed on Thursday. The May survey showed the third best employment prospects in Hungary within the Union.
According to a communication from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG EcFin), the ESI (economic sentiment indicator) economic sentiment index in the euro area rose by 2.6 points to 67.5 points in May and by 2.9 points to 66.7 points in May. in the European Union.
The rate of increase fell short of expectations, with the euro area expecting 70.3 points for the euro area in May after the 64.9 points in April. (MTI)
