Economic sentiment improved in the EU and the euro area in May
The economic sentiment index in the euro area and the European Union improved in May, according to the survey presented on Thursday by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN).
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the euro zone increased by 0.4 points compared to April, to 96 points.
The economic sentiment index of the European Union rose by 0.3 points to 96.5 points. The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) decreased by 0.4 points to 101.2 points in the EU, and by 0.3 points to 101.3 points in the euro area.
The consumer sentiment index rose by 0.5 points to minus 13.2 points in the EU, and improved by 0.4 points to minus 14.3 points in the euro area. In the case of Hungary, the ESI in May changed to 98.2 points from 98.7 points in April. The EEI rose from 103.2 points to 103.7 points.
