Improved consumer sentiment in Europe
Consumer confidence appreciably strengthened in May in the euro zone and in the European Union as a whole – according to the European Commission's preliminary flash estimate that was published on Thursday.
The sentiment index rose by 2.3 points to minus 7.0 points in the 19 countries of the euro zone. Analysts expected a moderate improvement of minus 9.0 points after the minus 9.3 points of April.
In the European Union's 28 member states, the value of the consumer confidence index increased by 1.1 points – from the minus 6.8 points of April – to minus 5.7 points in May. (MTI)
