Consumer confidence in the United States improved in January
The Conference Board nonprofit Economic Research Institute announced on Tuesday that the consumer confidence index has climbed from 128.2 points in December to 131.6 points. Analysts expected a slight decline of 128.0 points for January.
The sub-index of the current situation rose from 170.5 in December to 175.3 points. The index for the next half year increased from 100.0 points to 102.5 points in January.
After a moderate 0.7 point increase in December, consumer confidence increased markedly in January, basically due to consumers’ more favorable perception of the current labor market and employment prospects – Lynn Franco, Conference Board Director told. (MTI)
