Ahold Delhaize reports improving performance from Belgium
Thanks to cost savings and an improving performance in Belgium, Ahold Delhaize had a strong first quarter, ending with higher profitability in Europe. With quarterly revenues of EUR 21.7bn and an operating profit of EUR 861m, Ahold Delhaize exceeded the expectations of most observers. Better performance in Europe was particularly good news for the retailer: operating margins rose from 2.8% to 3.2%.
