Bird flu has also reached the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has also identified the presence of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus in the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, the agency informed MTI on Thursday.
The liquidation of the affected population has already been completed, and an epidemiological investigation to reveal the causes of the disease is underway, they wrote in the announcement. The authority – in accordance with the regulations – designated a three-kilometer radius protection zone around the given farm, as well as an extended surveillance (observation) zone.
The virus was detected in a poultry farm located in Tiszakürt, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, which holds approximately 3,600 fattening turkeys
This time, the lethargy of the birds and the increased mortality in the flock raised suspicions in the animal keeper. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the dead animals, they informed. The authority explains: the main means of protection against the disease can still be strict and consistent compliance with epidemic prevention regulations. Due to the migration of wild birds, there is a risk of the virus entering poultry farms throughout the country. The mandatory confinement of poultry is currently only in high-risk counties, but the feeding and watering of poultry under cover, as well as the storage of feed and litter in a closed place, is mandatory throughout the country, the announcement states.
