Lidl Hungary will significantly reduce the prices of several fresh chicken products from January 13. According to the supermarket chain, the measure is part of the January price reduction program, which will be implemented in several stages, and aims to pass on the benefits of lower purchase prices to consumers, while strengthening the market position of Hungarian products and contributing to the slowdown in inflation.

In this round, the prices of more than a dozen fresh chicken products from Hungarian sources will be reduced. The average price decrease is 7 percent, but for some products it can exceed 20 percent.

One of the largest price changes affects the 1-kilogram package of Húsfarm fresh chicken wings: the price will decrease by 24 percent, from 925 forints to 699 forints. Húsfarm fresh whole chicken will also be cheaper, the price of which will be reduced by 8 percent.

Several packages of fresh chicken breast fillet will also be on the shelves at a more favorable price:

  • the price of 1 kilogram Húsfarm fresh chicken breast fillet will decrease from 2125 forints to 1999 forints,

  • the price of 1 kilogram drumsticks will be 9 percent lower,

  • in addition, several upper thighs, thigh fillets and sliced chicken breast fillets will also become cheaper.

According to Zoltán Nepp, purchasing director of Lidl Hungary, the company’s goal is twofold: on the one hand, to provide tangible savings to households, and on the other hand, to create stable, predictable demand for domestic producers. He highlighted that all affected products are fresh chicken of Hungarian origin, which also serves to strengthen supplier relationships.

The reduction in the price of chicken is the third stage of Lidl’s January price reduction program.
Previously:

  • The prices of nearly 50 Hungarian milk and dairy products have decreased by an average of 6.5 percent, and for some products by up to 25 percent,

  • As of January 8, the price of a dozen Solevita fruit juices has decreased by an average of 14 percent, in some cases by up to 300 forints.

The move fits well into the market environment, where inflation has fallen below the central bank’s tolerance band for the second consecutive month, and analysts expect that the rate of food price increases may fall below 3 percent again. Lidl’s price reduction may therefore support the further reduction of inflation not only at the retail level, but also from a macroeconomic perspective.
