German retail sales increased
Annual retail sales in Germany increased in January by 5.3 percent in real terms. In nominal value retail sales rose with an annual 4.1 percent – according to preliminary data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) released on Tuesday.
In real terms, food, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages turnover grew by 3.8 percent year on year in January, however, the sales of clothes fell 2.1 percent. The retail sales of home furnishings, construction materials, home appliances increased by 6.6 percent, the retail sales pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other health care products increased by 4.5 percent.
