In January, the deposit return system for metal, glass and plastic bottles and cans of specified capacity will be launched, the consumer-friendly solution will be operated by the concession company in cooperation with manufacturers and traders – Raisz Anikó, the State Secretary responsible for the environment and circular economy of the Ministry of Energy, said on Friday in Budapest, the Planet Budapest 2023 at the Sustainability Expo and Experience Program.
According to the plans, mandatory acceptance is required for food sellers and distributors with a sales area of more than 400 square meters in settlements with a population of more than 1,000 people.
The redemption fee will be HUF 50 uniformly for single-use, i.e., single-use packaging, and the amount determined by the manufacturers for multi-use, multiple-use packaging, he explained.
He said that according to the latest data, about 20 million tons of waste is generated in Hungary every year, half of which is construction and demolition waste. About 4.5 million tons of waste are treated in the new concession system. The reorganization of Hungarian waste management has begun, and many new players will enter the system. There are many values in the waste that can be returned to the economy – he pointed out.
