NiT Hungary (National Transport Industry Association of Private Enterprises) continues the series of strategic negotiations with the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM) that began in December 2025. Our organization’s 35 years of experience and 4,800 active member companies are the guarantee that proposals serving the interests of Hungarian transporters will appear on the decision-makers’ tables in a professionally sound manner, supported by real data.

Professional background and representational power

NiT Hungary is not just an interest representation. Our mission is to bring the legislator’s ideas and the interests of Hungarian transport companies to a common denominator.

Our board and working groups are made up of the leaders of the member companies themselves, who, with 10, 20, or even more than 30 years of practical experience behind them, know exactly the daily reality of Hungarian roads and businesses.

Currently, nearly 80,000 licensed vehicles perform transport tasks in Hungary. 85% of the sector is made up of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are most directly affected by every government decision. When NiT Hungary sits at the negotiating table, it authentically represents 40% of the opinion of the entire transport society.

Our achievements so far (Recorded: December 21, 2025)

It is important to emphasize that NiT Hungary already fought for the critical results protecting the SME sector at the end of last year. The following partial results recorded on December 21, 2025 provide basic stability:

  • Toll increase rescheduling: The introduction has been postponed to March 1 instead of January.
  • More moderate increase: The increase has been maximized at 35% instead of the originally planned 54% (from March 1).
  • Difference instead of fine:  The possibility of paying the difference instead of imposing a toll fine.
  • Cost transfer: Mandatory transfer of the cost of the toll to customers.
  • Deferred restrictions: Suspension of the placement of restriction signs until the conclusion of professional consultations.

The January 14 objectives of negotiations

NiT Hungary will proceed according to the original plan in January 2026, keeping in mind the fundamental interests of 12,000 transport SMEs. Our discussion points:

  • Further reduction of toll rates and achievement of a fine moratorium.
  • The permanent provision of immediate fine alerts and a reliable toll calculator.
  • Enforcement of the 30-day payment deadline and the minimum service fee.
  • Reduction of business tax and fairer fine practices.
  • Ensuring a supply of drivers and reviewing total weight restrictions.
  • Enhancing the social esteem of the sector increase.

Data-driven advocacy

Our organization believes that results can be achieved at the negotiating table. We support our arguments with the ongoing data collection that addresses our 4,800 member companies and with data continuously requested from the specialized authorities. We compile and publish the current economic and competitiveness data received in order to prove to the government the situation of Hungarian transport SMEs based on a real, multi-thousand-strong data sample. The aim is to bring the intentions of the legislator and the interests of Hungarian transport enterprises to a common denominator.

Professional partnership and common denominator

NiT Hungary recognizes the government’s intention to balance the interests of the public and the professional interests. In this situation, ÉKM must represent both sides.

NiT Hungary aims to reach an agreement that takes into account the peace of mind of three million people and at the same time ensures the interests of the Hungarian transport companies that serve them.
