An exciting question is how the holiday candy market will develop.
Retailers are facing a difficult situation heading into the holiday season, which is their most important time of the year. So far, it has seemed that the population has been quite restrained in consumption, so more than usual depends on whether this changes in preparation for the holidays, say Auchan experts. At this time, the demand for sweets traditionally increases, but the increase in the world price of cocoa is also having a strong impact on the domestic chocolate market, which is also changing the supply somewhat.
“We have to pay more attention than usual to the development of the seasonal sweets range,” says Attila Nagy, sales director of Auchan Hungary. “For example, at Auchan, we tried to maintain a wide range of products, but the proportion of ordered quantities has clearly shifted towards lower-priced products.”
Of course, the hit products have not changed, and candy is still the seasonal favorite, of which Auchan stores offer 90 types of packaged products and 7 types of juices. This means that there is almost no flavor that is not in stock, and the sweets of the big brands that can be hung on the Christmas tree are just as present as the private labels, and even free products can be found in the range. The prices vary quite a bit, ranging from 1,999 forints to 21,200 forints per kilo.
In addition to the well-known and popular candy such as Milka black forest, Sport candy or jelly Bonbonetti, new products have also hit the shelves, such as Szamos Törley sparkling, Szamos salted caramel, Szerencsi Bogyó és Babóca or Boci candy.
Another popular sweet at this time of year is the chocolate Santa Claus, of which Auchan has 55 types and 24 other chocolate figures. Prices vary depending on the packaging, but chocolate Santa Claus are available from 159 forints, and ready-made packages can be purchased from 1250 forints.
Advent calendars have become very popular in recent years, of which the department store chain offers 31 types. Most of them are designed with children in mind, so customers can even find a Paw Patrol calendar, but of course adults can choose too, as Advent calendars containing various types of alcoholic chocolate are also available on the shelves.
