Tastes in the mirror
Winning the trust of consumers is essential, because a certain part of the press projects a negative image of food products. A good example of this is influential German magazine Der Spiegel. During Anuga they published a 6-page article titled Illusion. In this, the journalist writes that a baker admitted using calcium sulphate to make his rolls more solid. It is revealed that the German food industry comes out with 600 new products every week. The article concludes that consumer feel they are not taken seriously by food producers. To prove this, the article says that producers even cheat: for instance calves liver pâté is made from pig’s liver and veal.
