Drinking water pipe: asbestos cement or PVC? It doesn’t matter
The majority of Hungarians drink tap water, but a third of those surveyed do not know which pipe brings the most important natural liquid to their glass – research by Wavin and Ipsos Zrt. revealed.
However, according to the materials engineer, it does not matter whether the pipe is made of asbestos cement, lower-quality PVC, or a heat- and chemical-resistant, multilayer pipe runs in the walls.
Although the quality of drainage systems receives less attention than drinking water pipes, it cannot be neglected due to the condition of the property and environmental protection considerations. Defects in drainage pipe systems – leaks, blockages, or backflow – are often only discovered when the wall is already moldy or the floor has sunk.
The results of Wavin’s research show that buyers are already taking these expected costs into account when choosing their future home: 85 percent of respondents would be willing to pay more for a property that has a modern and safe drinking water and drainage system – every fourth respondent would be willing to pay more for a property that has a modern and safe drinking water and drainage system – even if the price difference is greater.
The materials engineer’s tips will also help you determine the pipes in your current or future property,
and the latest episode of the WavinVodcast will reveal further results of the research.
