Hungary food safety authority gives all-clear on supplement scare
Hungary has not imported any food supplements containing nimesulide, a substance known to be hepatotoxic, the Hungarian food safety authority (MEbiH) told MTI.
Sweden recently informed the European Commission through its
Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) that a food supplement
had been found to contain unlicensed nimesulide, MEbiH chief director
Maria Szabo Szeitz said.
A product named Fortodol, imported by
Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, causes permanent liver damage
which has resulted in four deaths so far. The product has been
banned. According to information received through RASFF, Hungary has
not received any Fortodol, but MEbiH has given warning that it is
still available to order on the internet.
