This year’s first real domestic fruit is here
The strawberry is the first real domestic fruit of the year, which is extremely popular among consumers due to its sweet taste and excellent nutritional value from a physiological point of view.
In addition, it can be prepared in many ways and can be perfectly integrated into different meals and diets. At the press workshop of the European Fresh Team, we found out what is worth knowing about fresh domestic strawberries. Frutti and Veggi visited a strawberry plantation with Luca Kozák, the athlete ambassador of the program, and chef József Bernáth prepared a special, tasty spring strawberry asparagus salad from the fruit they picked.
“This year’s domestic field strawberry season promises good harvest prospects, because fortunately the spring frost did not damage the field strawberries, although the cooler weather caused some delay in ripening.”
– said Balázs Győrffy, president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy. He pointed out that strawberries are grown on about 840 hectares in Hungary, and when choosing varieties, taste and flavor are the main considerations, not long shelf life, so especially good-tasting, well-adapted varieties for the domestic growing area, such as Clery, Joly, Aprica, Frederica have become popular among both producers and consumers.
