The biggest food collection of the year so far is here
On May 12-13, Friday and Saturday, the biggest food collection campaign of the year will take place organized by the Hungarian Food Bank Association.
In response to the ever-increasing needs of the needy, the Association is launching its charity campaign this spring for the first time, with which it managed to collect 250,000 kilos of non-perishable food during the Advent period of the past years. The Food Bank asks everyone to think about our fellow humans with a difficult fate even as the summer approaches, and when shopping on the weekend to put a durable food item of your choice for the needy in your basket, which you can drop off at the collection points next to the cash registers after paying. A total of 3,000 volunteers will collect the donations in 200 Tesco and ALDI stores in 115 settlements of the country over two days.
The non-perishable food collection campaign organized annually by the Hungarian Food Bank Association since 2006 has grown into one of the largest domestic celebrations of solidarity and togetherness. Donations also came in at an extraordinary pace for their last appeal, published at Christmas, customers collected enough food for 30 holiday packages for the needy during every minute of the weekend collection, and from the 241,000 kilos offered, the Food Bank finally received significant support for 48,000 people and families in difficult circumstances. favor
“Although the cold weather is over, we are past January and February, when requests for aid usually peak, but unfortunately the number of requests has still not started to decrease. In fact, more and more people are turning to the Food Bank for food parcels. Among the already high inflation figures the rise in the price of food stands out, which burdens the poorest the most. This is why we decided to ask for the public’s help for the first time this spring. We hope that many people will feel the gravity of the situation.”
said Balázs Cseh, president of the Food Bank.
