In today’s more and more digital economy one of the most important questions is: What is happening to the data of the customer when they buy something online? E-commerce operations are based very much on information collected about shoppers. Using the personal data of consumers that were collected during an online purchase doesn’t stop with the actual transaction: just think of the personalised advertisements that keep turning up on the screen wherever the consumer is going on the internet.
If everything is done in compliance with the regulations, the consumer gives their consent to this, but they aren’t always familiar with all conditions, data transfers, processing information and profiling for advertising purposes. The dilemma is how the personal data of consumers can be protected in the online world. Many say the optimal situation would be where after providing their data, users have full and practical control over these data. Expectation is that this topic will be in the spotlight in the near future, as it already concerns most of us on a daily basis. //
