Here is the world’s first 100 percent recycled diaper
Japan’s Unicharm Corp., a hygiene products company, on Saturday became the first in the world to start selling recycled diapers in shopping malls in the southwestern part of the country. Recycled diapers are available at 68 stores of the Aeon Kyushu Co. retail chain in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Unicharm collaborated with two local governments to develop the recycling process. The company uses special technology that uses ozone to remove bacteria and odors from recycled diapers, ensuring their hygiene and safety. The aim of the process is to make diaper production more sustainable and to reduce the amount of waste.
Unicharm started manufacturing recycled adult diapers in 2022, initially intended for hospitals and nursing homes. The company’s managing director, Tsutomu Kido, said that the hygiene of the diapers has been approved by experts, so the products are considered safe for users.
