World Pancake Day is here
Jam, cottage cheese, cocoa or hazelnut cream – pancakes are one of the most popular desserts and everyone loves them, but even such a seemingly simple delicacy can easily be spoiled if you are not careful. Burnt or too runny dough can cause a lot of headaches for the maker, and it can also quickly turn our kitchen into a battlefield. Most people follow their own proven recipe, while others rely on their intuition when mixing the dough. But what is the secret of divine pancakes and how can we avoid that our stove and kitchen hate baking? On the occasion of World Pancake Day, Gorenje’s experts have collected some tips that are guaranteed to help us make the perfect pancakes while also keeping our kitchen clean.
Perhaps few people know, but World Pancake Day always falls on Shrove Tuesday, the 47th day before Easter, which also marks the end of the carnival period and the beginning of the forty-day fast. Pancakes are known all over the world and there are so many varieties that it would be difficult to list them all. Its history goes all the way back to the Roman Empire, where it was more like a pie-like dough. Although the basic concept of the pancake has not changed significantly in the past millennia, it has been thought of so many times that today virtually every country has its own pancake. In Hungary, flour, eggs, sugar, salt and mineral water are used to prepare the dough, and then the pancakes are baked on the stove in a pan. But don’t let the simplicity fool you: almost everyone has a story where their pancakes didn’t turn out well – burnt, undercooked, runny, stuck, or fell to the other side of the stove while tossing. We’ve gathered what you need to know in order to easily and without any problems make divine pancakes at home, while protecting our beloved kitchen.
