Once again, JYSK is preparing for Christmas by closing on December 24
JYSK stores in the country are closed on Christmas for the seventh year this year. This year, the Danish home furnishing chain, which has more than 900 active employees in its domestic commercial business, won several prestigious employer awards – the closure serves their interests. At JYSK, store openings were also continuous this year: the company’s 101st store in Hungary opened in October 2024, but the renovation of existing stores is also ongoing.
JYSK 101 stores nationwide will be closed on December 24, thus helping their employees to relax during the stressful holiday season. The few weeks leading up to Christmas are one of the busiest periods in retail, so after the peak period, on December 24, JYSK stores are closed for the 7th year already. The stores will be open on December 22nd and 23rd, and will open for the first time after the holidays on December 27th.
For the third year running, JYSK is on Forbes’ “World’s Best Employers” list of 850 companies. In addition, TIME magazine ranked it among the best companies in the world. In addition to the global recognitions, JYSK’s domestic organization also collects awards one after another. At the beginning of this year, JYSK was chosen as the 8th best employer in Hungary on the Top Employers Hungary list, and in February, the Top Employer Institute awarded the company’s retail branch and the Ecseri regional logistics center with the Top Employer award for the second time.
JYSK’s own employee satisfaction survey also supports the company’s initiatives for its employees. 98 percent of JYSK employees took part in the survey, and the results show that the company’s employees are more motivated, satisfied and loyal than average. JYSK scored 82 points for job satisfaction, 88 points for loyalty and 90 points for commitment to core values.
Since January 2022, the wages of employees in JYSK stores have increased by more than 45 percent on average. In addition, employees receive high-quality, premium health insurance and a sports membership contribution, and commuting to work is subsidized by JYSK with HUF 30 per kilometer per month. Every year, the company spends several million forints on team building. Employees can also take part in a number of professional trainings and educations – for example, JYSK supports the acquisition of a forklift driver’s license – but mentoring programs and training modules are also available. The Talent Academy and the Business Manager internship program help those who are preparing for management positions. JYSK’s goal is that in the future 80 percent of managers will be appointed in-house, so there is an attractive career path for those working in the department store as well.
