Coop again helps children in state care
This year, the Coop Segély Alapítvány and CO-OP Hungary Zrt. donated almost 60 tons of Coop own-brand staple foods to approximately 2,700 children living in state care in six counties of Hungary. In cooperation with the State Secretariat for Welfare Policy of the Ministry of the Interior through its foundation, the retail chain helped provide meals to children living in state public institutions in the counties of Tolna, Baranya, Zala, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, and Budapest-Pest with a total donation of approximately 30 million forints. Nearly 17.5 tons of donations were received for 1,460 children in Budapest and Pest counties, which were handed over at the Kossuth Lajos Children’s Home Center and Primary School in Budapest’s 11th district.

This year, the Coop Aid Foundation truck set off for the sixth time to continue the national support program of the Coop store chain’s aid foundation that began in 2011. The Coop Aid Foundation, in cooperation with the State Secretariat for Welfare Policy of the Ministry of the Interior, once again supported the meals of almost 2,700 children in state care, this time in six counties, with a donation of 60 tons of Coop own-brand staple foods worth a total of approximately 30 million forints.
Coop is aware that the unfavorable, but now stabilized, inflationary processes that have taken place in the past two years – especially in the food industry – have resulted in increased price levels, which may pose a challenge to those social institutions that provide for the children’s care every day. “With this support, we want to alleviate this, and at the same time we want to express our respect to the nurses, educators and all their helpers who do selfless work in these institutions,” said Géza Tóth, CEO of Co-op Hungary Zrt. With the donation package made up of Coop’s own-brand staple foods, the Coop Support Foundation contributed to the daily meals of the children, however, the store chain is aware that the care and meals of the children are ensured in the institutions.
