INTERSPAR – stability and quality for 30 years
INTERSPAR’s 30th anniversary is not just a celebration, but also proof that innovation, continuous development and stability go hand in hand at SPAR Hungary. Over the past three decades, the emergence of the INTERSPAR hypermarket has not only transformed shopping habits, but has also become a reliable partner for both domestic producers and families – and it will continue to work towards an even better shopping experience in the future.
SPAR Hungary opened its first hypermarket in Hungary in 1995, thus starting a new era in the history of domestic retail. With the introduction of the INTERSPAR format, not only a new type of store was created, but SPAR also made a modern, convenient and all-round shopping experience available to domestic consumers. Since then, the name INTERSPAR has been synonymous with reliable quality, a huge selection and support for domestic producers.

Today, there are 36 INTERSPAR hypermarkets operating across the country, with a total of 142 thousand square meters of sales space, and more than 2,500 people working every day to ensure that customers receive services that meet all their needs. The hypermarkets offer more than 30,000 items – from food to household appliances – which means that every member of the family can find the products they need in one place.
Focus on local needs and domestic sourcing
INTERSPAR hypermarkets vary in size: the smallest unit with a sales area is located in Debrecen, on Mikepércsi út (2,620 m²), while the largest is also in Debrecen, on Malompark, Füredi út (5,234 m²). These figures also clearly demonstrate SPAR’s business approach that is tailored to local needs. The company is particularly proud that INTERSPAR hypermarkets work with domestic sourcing sources at a rate of over 91%, so not only do customers receive quality, fresh products, but Hungarian producers and manufacturers also find a stable partner in SPAR.
The 30th anniversary is not just a festive occasion, but also another milestone that reinforces SPAR Hungary’s long-term commitment to the domestic market, sustainability and communities.
