Coca-Cola processes because of Smear campaign trough internet
Coca-Cola's Argentinian division accused a competitor there Thursday of waging a two-year smear campaign against Coke's Dasani bottled water.
Coke said it filed a "criminal complaint" under
Argentina's Unfair Trade Practices Statute against two executives of Groupe
Danone and one executive from New York-based advertising and marketing firm
Euro RSCG Worldwide.
Coke spokesman Dana Bolden, speaking from the company's
headquarters in Atlanta, said the executives are alleged to have planted
messages on blogs and Internet sites calling Dasani "cancer water"
and "bottled tap water."
Bolden said the company was unable to make the complaint
public. He also said he could not name the Argentina-based executives involved
while a judge decides whether to accept the case.
If found guilty, each of the executives would face paying
maximum damages of $10,000, Bolden said.
While Coca-Cola competes with Danone in Argentina, the
companies are partners in the U.S., where Coke is the master distributor for
Evian. Coke and Danone owned the Dannon water brand together until 2005, when
Coke bought out Danone.
