Promotions keep coming in spite of the inflation
Lasting inflation and rising prices make shoppers even keener on price promotions. Retailers are in a difficult position, as sourcing prices change on a daily basis, so they must plan price promotions with great care if they don’t want to make a loss by the end of the promotional period – informed EY. Plus as a new rule, since 28 May retailers must also indicate the lowest price of the last 30 days when they offer a price promotion.
Dr Andrea Magdolna Nagy, head of EY Law’s consumer protection division warned: planning is essential, as one falsely indicated promotional price is now enough for consumers to file a complaint. According to the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH), in the first half of the year 60% of procedures started after complaints made by consumers or firms. Dr András Losonci, commercial law expert of EY Law told: consumer protection authorities like to conduct inspections in promotional periods, they don’t even need complaints to do so. //
