The winter seasonal inspection in retail trade begins
Márton Nobilis, the Secretary of State responsible for the food industry and trade policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, ordered a nationwide winter seasonal inspection between December 4 and 31. As in the past, the inspections are coordinated by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), in which county government offices, district offices and Nébih specialists all contribute. The aim of the almost one-month-long muster is to check the most popular products and restaurants of the winter holiday period – the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) announced in its statement on Monday.
The state secretary explained that – in accordance with the festive period – the production and distribution of meat will be the focus of the inspections, but the experts will also monitor the trade of live fish and confectionery products. The operation of catering establishments set up for Advent fairs, as well as wine and alcoholic products, will also be scrutinized. In addition, Nébih examines pet food, including winter bird feed, as well as the activities of fish transporters and primary producers – listed the AM.
With regard to the production of meat and meat products, among others, slaughterhouses and cutting plants are inspected, while in the case of distribution, hypermarkets, supermarkets, specialty stores, wholesale units, and logistics centers are inspected. The purpose of the inspections is to ensure that the activities of the inspected facilities and the food they produce/distribute meet the legal requirements.
