Pepper promotion campaign to be started
“The Hungarian cuisine is unimaginable without the Hungarian paprika” the Hungarian pepper promotional campaign’s aim is to increase consumption – Fazekas Sándor, Minister for Rural Development said on Friday, in a shopping mall in Budaörs.
The Minister for Rural Development in the opening event of the campaign emphasized that the “pepper is part of the national pride and part of the Hungarian identity.” It has a privileged position both in folklore and gastronomy and also plays a significant role in Hungarian agriculture.
He added that most of the Hungarian pepper (paprika) is grown in the southern Great Plains, around Szentes. IN Hungary total production is 160-170 thousand tons per year. Hungary is the fifth largest exporter of pepper within the European Union. (MTI)
