Distributor recalls refined rice bran oil from India
Due to the presence of glycidyl esters exceeding the limit value, the distributor Discovery Bliss Trade Kft. has recalled the 1-liter refined rice bran oil product originating from India – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) informed MTI on Friday.
The measure affects the Indian AWL Agri Business 1-liter products with a production date of May 5, 2025 and a best before date of June 6, 2027.
According to the information, the product was imported to Hungary by a Dutch importer (Caribecom Trading BV) arrived via. The authority began an investigation based on a report received through the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and immediately contacted the Hungarian distributor.
The company has taken the necessary measures, has ensured that the affected item is recalled from consumers, and the authority is monitoring the further fate of the recalled products (destruction or removal) – they said.
The authority requests that anyone who has purchased these products and is still in possession of them not use them.
It has been noted that glycidyl esters formed during high-temperature refining of vegetable oils are converted to carcinogenic glycidol in the body.
