Here are the Hungarian e-retailers with the most global market potential
For the first time, the HungarEcomm Stars Award was presented to Hungary’s most outstanding e-commerce companies that are also competitive on the world market.
The prize, presented by the Digital Trade Association, Ecommerce Hungary and Growww Digital, can be won by reliable and ethical Hungarian-majority-owned companies with annual online sales exceeding HUF one billion and meeting strict competitiveness criteria. These include economic stability, digital competence and effective market strategy.
“Just being on the list is a huge merit, since these 47 companies are one in a thousand of the domestic webshops, but their importance is clearly indicated by the fact that their total revenue last year exceeded HUF 500 billion, of which 40 percent (HUF 219 billion) comes from online sales . These companies would stand their ground anywhere in the world”
– said László Szabó, founding partner of Growwww Digital.
The award was presented at the Internet Hungary conference on October 1, 2024 in Siófok. 15 of the 47 most capable companies in the world market received personal recognition. Pepita Group Zrt. (pepita.hu) received the first prize among the largest companies with a turnover of over HUF 10 billion, BioTechUSA Kft. (shop.biotechusa.hu) was the second, iPon Computer Kft. (ipon. hu) is third, Vöröskő Kft. (euronics.hu) is fourth, and Premium Sport Kft. (heavytools.hu) is fifth.
In the 5-10 billion range, WhiskeyNet Kft. (whiskynet.hu) came first on the list, second was Mobilredfox Kft. (mobilfox.com), third was Furbify Hungary Kft. (furbify.hu), then Zákány Szerszámház Kft. (zakanyszerszamhaz.hu) and Dockyard Islands Kft. (dockyard.hu) followed.
In the 1-5 billion category, Greenman Kft. (greenman.hu) received the first prize, followed by Nutriversum Kft. (nutriversum.com) and Suller-Táp Kft. (kutyakajas.hu). In fourth place was Webshop Logisztika Kft. (vagyaim.hu), while in fifth place was eOptika.hu Kft. (eoptika.hu).
The goal of the HungarEcomm Stars Award is to set good examples and thereby encourage the growth and international expansion of Hungarian e-retailers. It is vital for Hungarian e-retailers to be successful in as many international arenas as possible, since e-commerce today accounts for 9 percent of retail turnover in Hungary, but in a decade, according to experts’ expectations, it may even rise above 20-25 percent.
Since the competition in e-commerce marketplaces is huge, more and more foreign companies have appeared on the domestic market as well, and it does not matter at all what proportion of this 25 percent will be Hungarian e-retailers. And what happens if none of this is realized is the rapid spread of TEMU in Hungary.
