Japanese love edible shelled bananas
Consumers from all over the country have traveled to the southwest of Okayama specifically for edible shelled bananas. And although a special banana’s costs 6 USD (1,500 HUF) a piece, the company needs to increase its production to keep up with the growth of buyers – origo wrote.
The superbanana known as “mongee” among the locals is not only unique because of its edible shell.
Banana is one of the most popular fruits in Japan, but the climatic conditions in the island do not allow its production, so it needs huge imports, mostly from the Philippines.
