The investors of Sharks found a real goldfish on RTL on Sunday – four of them took a bite out of the educational startup called Jójegy. A small fight for the business, a so-called shark attack, developed, and in the end the investment took place in a form that has never been seen before during the 9 seasons of the Hungarian business show.

All Sharks are looking for goldfish: now they haven’t found just any

Sharks is RTL’s most successful business show, where entrepreneurs present their ideas to investors – the “Sharks” – in the hope of receiving capital and professional support. In the current season of the show, 5-5 renowned businessmen take turns taking the investor seats every week. The show mentioned in the introduction featured Ildikó Tóth, Péter Csillag, András Moldován, Sándor Varga and György Waberer, who were also interviewed by various entrepreneurs this time. A recent highlight was Jójegy, a dynamically developing Hungarian educational startup. The company was founded by Márk Mester and Donát Nyiri with the aim of helping students with online learning materials from preparing for the central high school entrance exam to taking the final exam. The platform works with animated videos, practice tests, notes written by a specialist teacher and exam simulation. All of Jójegy’s courses are prepared with the participation of the country’s leading specialist teachers, specifically tailored to the domestic educational requirements. This enables it to significantly help tens of thousands of young people in their learning. In addition to the two founders, the third owner of the company, Máté Tóth, also appeared on the show, who is not only an owner but also a developer in the life of Jójegy.

Artificial intelligence led András Moldován to a shark attack

During Jójegy’s business introduction, he asked for an investment of 30 million forints for a 20% ownership stake. A lively debate broke out after the introduction, especially about the future role of artificial intelligence in education. András Moldován believed that artificial intelligence could replace these types of services over time, which is why he preferred to exit the business.

“We understood this position, but we considered it important to say that artificial intelligence is currently unable to provide complete exam preparation and comprehensive knowledge transfer tailored to the exact requirements of the Hungarian education system”

– said Márk Mester, co-founder of Jójegy, who added: of course it can support the operation of the platform, but it is capable of thoughtful education and, as part of this, complex and expert content production tailored to current requirements.

However, the remaining four Sharks saw serious potential in the brand, so several different offers were received in a short time during the broadcast. The rapidly arriving investment offers created a real shark attack situation, presenting entrepreneurs with serious decision-making situations.

The fresh Shark was not satisfied with a small bite

Sándor Varga, the programmer-mathematician turned billionaire businessman and gastronomic expert, introduced himself as a new investor in the 9th season of Sharks. He also intended to invest, but he also had a specific ownership percentage in mind.

“Based on the pitch, my first feeling was that the Jójegy team had really built something: the Tízes Lista is not just an idea, it is clear that they understand how to gain attention and keep it in the long term. For me, education and training are of paramount importance, so an investment in this direction has been strategically relevant from the beginning. Negotiations for a 10% ownership share are currently underway, and I see serious potential in it”

– said Sándor Varga.

There has been no example of such an investment in the previous 9 seasons of Sharks

The decision-making process ultimately led to a solution that was unprecedented in the history of the show: the four The investor does not enter Jójegy as four independent parties, but as a consortium. The consortium form allows for the combination of different professional experiences, while the company’s decision-making remains transparent and manageable. The simultaneous investment of four Sharks is not everyday, but in this form, it appeared as a completely new turn in the history of the business show. Therefore, Jójegy’s current TV appearance is not only an investment success, but also a television milestone.
