NAV raided an illegal family tobacco operation
The financial investigators of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) raided a family from the county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg engaged in drying, shredding and selling tobacco leaves.
In a statement sent to MTI on Thursday, NAV wrote that the perpetrators caused more than HUF 800 million in financial losses to the central budget.
According to the customs office, the perpetrators chopped and ground the dried tobacco leaves using home-made tobacco cutting machines, and then sold the tobacco produced in this way to consumers. In order to interrupt the production and sales process, the financial investigators of the North Hungarian Criminal Directorate of the NAV together with the Deployment Directorate of the NAV conducted searches at several locations.
