This is how Hungarians feel about smoking culture
More and more people are using heated tobacco products, so the question arises as to how Hungarians feel about this form of smoking, and what social norms and rules of etiquette apply to users of new types of tobacco products. Is the use of heated tobacco products different from traditional smoking? The representative research conducted by JTI Hungary Zrt. in January 2024 seeks answers to these questions.
Many people believe that the consumption of heated tobacco products entails different rules than those of traditional tobacco products, since the smell of tobacco vapor is less disturbing than cigarette smoke and it has been proven to contain fewer harmful substances. We will evaluate whether this is really the case with the protocol and etiquette expert Dr. Katalin Kibédi-Varga based on the research of JTI Hungary Zrt.
In recent years, the popularity of heated tobacco products has increased significantly, and these products are mostly used by people in their twenties and those with a higher education. In our country, the proportion of smokers is 48%, and users of heated tobacco products make up 18% of the adult population. According to the respondents, the enjoyment value of heated tobacco products compared to traditional tobacco products is the same or higher: 31% of respondents think that heated products are better, and 32% think they are no less than the enjoyment value of traditional cigarettes.
