Hungarians are increasingly spending their Easter holidays abroad, and the war situation in the Middle East is not changing this. Despite a more than 10% decrease in the average price of tickets for flights within Europe, the number of flight reservations on Kiwi.com increased by 84.8% year-on-year*. Most Hungarians fly to Italy, with Barcelona being the most popular city during this period.

Based on reservations made on Kiwi.com until March 23, the number of passengers during the Easter period increased by 66.1% compared to last year. The average price of flights within Europe decreased by 11.2%, from 182.84 euros to 162.4 euros, and intercontinental flights had to be paid 6.4% more (2025: 369.75 euros, 2026: 393.36 euros).

“Hungarians clearly preferred European destinations this year, where prices were also more favorable. Although most bookings came to Barcelona, Italian cities – such as Naples, Bari, Catania or Bologna – together still keep Italy in first place”

– said Daniela Chovancová, Kiwi.com’s press relations manager.

The list is therefore still topped by Italy, while Barcelona won the city competition. The Catalan capital has made a huge jump: last year it was only in 11th place, but this year it has already become the most popular destination. Rome and Milan are holding steady in the top rankings.

Not only have the classic favorites strengthened, the Netherlands, for example, is one of the biggest winners this season, where 239% more Hungarians travel. Among the cities, Naples has really exploded: with a 241% increase, it has become one of the fastest-growing destinations. In addition to the aforementioned Barcelona, Hurghada has also grown spectacularly (+200%).

Later booking, 4-5-day trip

The booking window has shortened by an average of 10 days compared to last year. While a year ago Hungarians bought their flight tickets more than 60 days before the trip, this year it is more like 50 days. The length of stay has not changed, with most people still planning 4-5 day Easter getaways.
