This is how refillable beverage bottles can help fight climate change!
From mid-2023, a deposit system for beverage packaging will be introduced again at home. As it stands, the system will encourage collection rather than refilling packaging, even though the reuse of bottles reduces the environmental impact to a greater extent than simple recycling.
According to recent data, only about 50% of wine bottles are collected in Hungary, while in Germany and Sweden the figure is around 90%. The overall picture is shaded by the fact that the share of refillable bottles in these countries is also stagnant or decreasing, for example in Germany the proportion has fallen below 50% in the last few years.
In Hungary, brewers still use significant quantities of refillable bottles, in 2019 they had only a 21% share of the total production.
