This is how remotely monitored stores will work
It was recently announced that the first so-called “hybrid” stores will soon be launched in Hungary as well, which will be waiting for customers during the day in the form we know today, and in an unmanned mode outside of the usual opening hours. Details about the technical conditions of the option and how to use it were announced at the May 15 retail conference of Laurel Kft., the developer of the solution.
In order to use the new type of stores, you will need an application, upon downloading which you will provide your personal data, which will be supported by a photo ID – Attila Bessenyei, managing director of Laurel, began the presentation of the system at the event. Based on this, the application on our smartphone creates a single-use QR code with which we can enter the store, where we can shop in the usual way, i.e. simply put the desired products in the basket. In an unmanned plant, payment is made at the self-service cash registers, where you also have to scan the QR code that identifies you, just like you can’t leave the store without scanning the block you received.
So everyone who is in the store in unmanned mode is already identified, but a complex system also takes care of security. For example, the camera images of stores operating in this way are monitored by an artificial intelligence-based algorithm, which recognizes suspicious and unusual customer movements and immediately reports them to remote monitoring. And the security employee who is on remote monitoring, who monitors several stores at the same time, can intervene, since he is not only in video, but also in voice contact with the store, so of course he is also available to customers if they need help. The system also automatically solves the issue of alcoholic beverages, since by default only adults can enter the store in unmanned mode.
