This is how big chain stores prepare for the Balaton season
As summer arrives, it brings significant changes to the opening hours of stores in Hungary, especially around Lake Balaton and other popular resorts. Vacations at the Hungarian seaside have become more expensive, and the renovation of the M7 further complicates the situation, but the large domestic chain stores are trying to ease the burden on vacationers by offering customers extended opening hours.
Lidl
Lidl’s summer opening hours have been extended from June 10 to September 1, in its 8 stores around Lake Balaton, the opening hours are from 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m., and on Sundays until 8:00 p.m.
Penny
Penny stores across the country will operate with changed opening hours from June 17 to September 4, open until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and until 8 a.m. in selected locations on Sundays, and until 6 a.m. elsewhere.
Aldi
Aldi 10 is introducing a longer opening period in its stores around Lake Balaton, which will last from June 14 to August 20. On weekdays and Saturdays, most shops remain open until 10:00 p.m., and on Sundays until 8:00 p.m., thus ensuring a comfortable shopping opportunity for vacationers.
Tesco
There are also significant changes at Tesco, some of their Balatonmenti stores are open until 11 p.m., enabling same-day deliveries and store pick-ups, and also offering on-demand ordering through the services of Foodora and Wolt.
Spar
Spar stores also adapt to summer traffic, usually opening between 06:00 and 06:30 and staying open until 20:00 and 21:00, with exceptions such as in Siófok, where some stores are open until 22:00. Express stores at gas stations open 24 hours a day are particularly convenient for travelers.
