How to get free beers at the trendiest places in Budapest

The new Bakancslista beer travel card offers a great opportunity to get to know the diversity of the capital’s (small-scale) beer world, with which you can visit two breweries, several gastropubs, craft beer bars and a ruin pub with an exciting drink selection – and each one comes with a two-glass free tasting!

The initiative is backed by the beer magazine Beerporn.hu, which will be ten years old next year and has produced the publication for the fourth time. “After the initial success of the format, we have already implemented the Bakancslista in some large cities in the countryside, but the most popular is always the end-of-year beer guide featuring ten restaurants in the capital,” said Gábor Knap, editor-in-chief of Beeporn.hu. He added: “each Bakancslista publication is a great opportunity for the public to get to know new restaurants and special beers on tap.”

The Bakancslista 4.0 beer guide, published on the last weekend of November, offers exciting pubs and restaurants in both Buda and Pest, which can be great venues for romantic beer dinners or friendly get-togethers.

In Buda, Bajor Sport Pub & Gastro, in addition to Millenáris, awaits guests with German beers and pretzels and leberkäse sandwiches. In the nearby Jégkert, visitors can also choose from 24 beer taps of Hungarian small-scale products in winter.

In Lágymányos, in addition to 16 types of draft beer, you can also taste more than a hundred types of bottled/canned beer. In Kelenföld, in Jónas, you can choose from dishes inspired by different cuisines of the world in addition to the free craft beers, and in Budafok, the brand new Haggenmacher Beer Hall awaits Bakancslista owners with new products.

In downtown Pest, visitors to Beer People can learn everything about craft beers, and guests of Jenő Bár can also get to know one of the most atmospheric, truly bohemian spots in the capital’s ruin pub forest.

Operating on Rákóczi út, Stifler Beerhouse & In Kitchen, it is worth studying the menu in addition to the beer list, while the bartenders at Maestro Café & Pub on Mester Street have one of the most diverse beer selections in the area.
